On August 17, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) started to receive freshmen admitted in 2022. At 6:00 in the morning, the volunteers moved the supplies to the welcome point on the south side of Building C. At 7:00, the welcome work is ready, everyone is glad with and high spirit, looking forward to the arrival of new fellows.

The bright red arches, the colorful flags flying in the wind on the main road, the lovely mascots of each department, the clear and eye-catching signs, the cute Pikachu and the well-designed 2022 Tsinghua Freshman Handbook... are transmitting the mellow blessings and hopes in the late summer and early autumn, and sending the warmest greetings to the freshmen of Tsinghua University: “Welcome, new students!”
Volunteers and mascots welcome the arrival of new students
As the pandemic in China is still complicated and severe, most of the freshmen admitted in 2022, like the senior fellows admitted in 2020 and 2021, are not accompanied by their family members but enter the school and complete the registration procedures alone. With the warm and friendly greetings of the volunteers, the freshmen came to the check-in point one after another. Assisted by teachers and volunteers, they completed one-stop procedures such as filling in and transferring household registrations, handing in files, and receiving freshmen gift packages, gradually familiar with the new campus, excited and waiting for the coming life in Tsinghua.
Wang Kui and Li Shisong, teachers of the freshmen came to the registration point to welcome the new students with the volunteers. The freshmen who came to Tsinghua Park ahead of schedule also actively participated in the orientation process. With the joint efforts of everyone, the freshmen felt less anxious about stepping into an unfamiliar environment, and more eager to become the new owners of the garden.
In the morning, Mr. Kang Chongqing, Dean of EEA, Mr. Yu Xinjie, Secretary of the Party Committee of EEA, Mr. Zheng Zedong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of EEA and Mr. Hu Wei, Assistant Dean of EEA, came to the check-in point to inquire about and guide the freshman reception work, had in-depth exchanges with the volunteers and took a group photo with some of the freshmen admitted in 2022.

At 9::00 on the freshmen reception day in Tsinghua, Qiu Yong, Secretary of the University’s Party Committee, and his entourage came to the reception point to greet the teachers and students who participated in the reception work and talked with the freshmen. Mr. Qiu Yong talked to Mr. Kang Chongqing, asked him about the situation of EEA’s undergraduate freshmen this year, and praised EEA’s excellent undergraduate training and teaching work. Later, Mr. Qiu Yong had a warm conversation with EEA’s freshmen who had completed the registration, inquired about the their families and their studies in detail, and encouraged them to contact new things and work hard in college life, so as to be a Tsinghua man worthy of the motherland and living up to the times.

In 2022, EEA admitted a total of 87 undergraduate students, including 80 male students, 7 female students and 3 international students. The freshmen came from more than 80 middle schools across the country, about 13% are from ethnic minorities, and about 21% are from the provinces in the western region. The “post-00s” (those born after 2000) are full of confidence and vigor, and will inject new blood to the Department on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Department.

As the freshmen completed their registrations, the reception activities for the undergraduate students admitted in 2022 came to an end. We wish them a bright future and wonderful life in Tsinghua University.
