On July 25, the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering announced the recipients of the 2025 CSEE Science and Technology Awards, including the Gao Jingde Science and Technology Achievement Award. Professor Liang Xidong of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Dean of Weiyang College was one of the two recipients, recognized for his outstanding achievements in high-voltage and insulation technology.
The Gao Jingde Science and Technology Achievement Award was jointly established by the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering and Tsinghua University to recognize scientists and engineers who have made outstanding achievements in the field of electrical engineering. No more than three recipients are selected each year, with the award having been presented annually since 2022.

Liang Xidong
Professor Liang Xidong has devoted his career to research in high-voltage and insulation technology. He is a pioneer, founder, and leading figure in the field of high-voltage organic external insulation in China, as well as an internationally recognized authority in high-voltage external insulation. He successfully addressed the long-standing challenge of widespread pollution flashovers that had plagued power grids, providing strong technical support for the construction and safe operation of China’s ultra-high-voltage and extra-high-voltage AC and DC power projects. He has received two Second Prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, six provincial- and ministerial-level first and second prizes, and has twice received the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 1906 Award. He has also actively promoted reforms in electrical engineering education and teaching and the independent development of high-level talent for strategically important national fields. His honors include the Special Prize of the Baosteel Education Award for Outstanding Teachers, the Tsinghua University New Centennial Teaching Achievement Award, and the Special Prize of the Tsinghua University Teaching and Education Achievement Award.
