From June 5 to 6, the 2026 National Energy Internet Conference was held at the Qingdao International Conference Center under the theme “Digital Intelligence Empowering New Power Systems, Scientific and Technological Innovation Leading the National Strategy for Building an Energy Powerhouse.” Attendees included Ren Gang, Deputy Secretary of the Qingdao Municipal Committee of the CPC and Mayor of Qingdao; Liu Deshun, Chief Engineer of the National Energy Administration; Geng Tao, Member of the Standing Committee of the Qingdao Municipal Committee of the CPC and Vice Mayor of Qingdao; Wang Xinwei, Deputy General Manager and Member of the Leading Party Members Group of China Three Gorges Corporation; Lin Yifan, Chairman and Party Secretary of State Grid Shandong Electric Power Company; and Zeng Rong, Executive Vice President of Tsinghua University. Academicians Guan Xiaohong and Tang Bo of the Chinese Academy of Sciences delivered keynote speeches. The conference was chaired by Gao Wensheng, Secretary-General of the National Alliance for Energy Internet Industry and Technology Innovation.
Conference Venue
Ren Gang stated that Qingdao would take the conference as an opportunity to further embrace new concepts in the energy sector, launch new industrial cooperation initiatives, foster new quality productive forces in energy development, and make greater contributions to building China into an energy powerhouse.
Liu Deshun emphasized the need to accelerate the empowerment of new quality productive forces in the power sector, promote the deep integration of scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation, and seize the commanding heights of innovation at the intersection of artificial intelligence and energy.
Lin Yifan stated that State Grid Shandong Electric Power Company would continue to deepen digital and intelligent empowerment and scientific and technological innovation, actively explore new pathways for developing new power systems, and provide strong support for the advancement of the Energy Internet and the national strategy of building an energy powerhouse.
Zeng Rong noted that serving national needs has always been Tsinghua University’s highest pursuit. The University will continue to advance organized scientific research, strengthen the integration of fundamental research with engineering applications, accelerate the application of research achievement in energy systems, and contribute wisdom and strength to the development of an energy powerhouse and sustainable development.
Tang Bo and Guan Xiaohong delivered keynote speeches entitled “Key Technologies and Industrial Demonstration of Hydrogen Production from Seawater” and “Hydrogen-Empowered Zero-Carbon Smart Energy Systems and the Energy Revolution,” respectively.
Gao Feng, Deputy Director of the Institute for Energy Internet Innovation at Tsinghua University and Deputy Secretary-General of the National Alliance for Energy Internet Industry and Technology Innovation, released the 2026 Annual Report on the Development of the National Energy Internet.

The conference recognized the lead organizations of the “2026 Best Practices in the Energy Internet” and experts who received the Outstanding Contribution Award.
During the thematic presentation session, Wang Yong, Chief Engineer and Member of the Party Committee of State Grid Shandong Electric Power Company; Sun Zhengyun, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the China Energy Research Society; Zheng Waisheng, Chairman and Party Secretary of the China Southern Power Grid Research Institute; and Lu Chao, Deputy Head and Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University, delivered presentations in their respective fields.
On the afternoon of June 5 and the morning of June 6, six parallel forums and a comprehensive forum were held in succession.
The conference was hosted by Tsinghua University and organized by the Institute for Energy Internet Innovation of Tsinghua University.
