On the morning of January 21, the iEnergy Frontier Forum on Power and Energy and Editorial Board Meeting was successfully held in Hong Kong during the first IEEE Power & Energy Society International Meeting (2026 IEEE PES International Meeting, PESIM). Over 50 experts and scholars from around the world attended, including Zhong Zhiyong, PESIM Conference Chair and Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering; Dushan Boroyevich, Fellow of the US National Academy of Engineering and Professor at Virginia Tech; Nikos Hatziargyriou, Fellow of the Academy of Athens and Professor at National Technical University of Athens; Daniel Kammen, Fellow of the US National Academy of Sciences and Professor at Johns Hopkins University; Zhu Ziqiang, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and Professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Goran Strbac, Deputy Editor of iEnergy and Head of the Power and Energy Systems Discipline at Imperial College London; and Professor Huang Xingyi from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Kang Chongqing, Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University, and He Jinliang, Editor-in-Chief of iEnergy, delivered opening remarks. The meeting was hosted by Sun Kai, Deputy Director of the Department of Electrical Engineering.

In his speech, Kang Chongqing emphasized that the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University attaches great importance to the high-quality development of the iEnergy journal. He stated that the department will further integrate disciplinary resources, deepen international academic exchanges and cooperation, fully support the journal in achieving new breakthroughs in interdisciplinary integration and academic influence, and contribute Tsinghua’s intelligence and strength to the global energy transition and “dual-carbon” goals.

He Jinliang summarized the achievements of iEnergy since its inception and expressed gratitude to the editorial board members for their dedication. He pointed out that the “i” in iEnergy not only represents “current” but also embodies multiple connotations including wisdom, innovation, and interconnection, hoping that all editorial board members will work together to make iEnergy a first-class academic exchange platform in the global power and energy field.

Following the opening remarks, the “iEnergy Best Paper Award” ceremony was held, with He Jinliang and Kang Chongqing presenting awards to the authors and extending warm congratulations. During the editorial board appointment ceremony, several experts and scholars were formally appointed as members of the iEnergy editorial board, injecting new academic strength into the journal’s future development.

In the invited academic report session, Professor Daniel Kammen explored the critical role of materials science and artificial intelligence in promoting inclusive growth and sustainable development; Professor Huang Xingyi provided a systematic introduction to radiative cooling materials and their application prospects in power equipment; Professor Goran Strbac shared holistic approaches to low-carbon energy system operation and planning, as well as the critical value of flexibility resources in future energy systems. The presentations attracted extensive attention and deep reflection from attending experts and scholars, and the on-site discussion atmosphere was lively.

During the editorial board work discussion, members exchanged ideas on journal positioning, topic planning, peer review mechanisms, and international development, providing recommendations for continuously improving academic quality and global influence.

The meeting further consolidated editorial board consensus, clarified the key directions for iEnergy’s future development, and provided important support for enhancing academic quality and expanding international influence.

Introduction to iEnergy

iEnergy (International Journal of Power and Energy) is a fully open-access English-language academic journal hosted by Tsinghua University, published by Tsinghua University Press, with IEEE responsible for overseas dissemination and academic support provided by the Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University. Professor He Jinliang serves as Editor-in-Chief. iEnergy was first published in March 2022, is a quarterly journal, and has published a total of 160 articles. Published papers have been cited by journals from 77 countries, totaling 338 journals. Cited journals include top journals such as Nature Energy, Nature Materials, Nature Climate Change, Joule, Energy Storage Materials, among others.

Currently, iEnergy is indexed by internationally recognized databases including ESCI, Ei Compendex, Scopus, DOAJ, CAS, and Inspec. In 2024, it received its first impact factor of 5.1 and CiteScore of 7.4 (Scopus), ranking in Q1 for Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Additionally, iEnergy was selected for the 2024 “Phase II High-Starting New Journal Subproject” of China’s Science and Technology Journal Excellence Action Plan.
