From October 19 to 23, the 17th IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE 2025) was held in Philadelphia, USA. ECCE is a top-level international conference in the fields of power electronics and electrical machines, jointly organized by the IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) and the Industrial Applications Society (IAS). The congress aims to promote the development of efficient energy conversion technologies using advanced materials and devices. Faculty members Sun Kai, Wang Xiongfeng, and Ji Shiqi, along with 19 postdoctoral researchers and graduate students from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics, participated in the event.

EEA faculty and students had a total of 15 papers accepted at the conference, including 4 oral presentations and 11 poster presentations. At various sessions, the attendees presented their latest research results and engaged in extensive and in-depth exchanges with scholars, students, and engineering professionals from the global power electronics and electrical machine community. Meanwhile, EEA participants actively took part in various activities organized by IEEE PELS, gaining substantial benefits. Professor Sun Kai received the IEEE PELS Outstanding Achievement Award for Contribution in Electronic Power Grid Technology and was appointed as the coordinating speaker of the newly established Energy Network Technical Committee Cluster during the PELS Technical Committee cluster meeting. Professor Wang Xiongfeng, as Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics (TPEL), attended the 40th anniversary celebration of the journal’s founding, hosted the award ceremony for winning papers, and participated in the PELS Technical Activities Working Meeting as Chair of the Power Electronics for Electric Grid Systems Technical Committee, promoting exchanges and collaboration with other committees. Associate Professor Ji Shiqi served as session chair for the energy storage sub-session. PhD student Shi Qingyuan participated in the Women in Engineering (WIE) meeting as a volunteer.
During the conference, Tsinghua alumni from home and abroad organized gatherings and networking events. EEA Deputy Dean Sun Kai introduced the latest progress of the “One Department, Two Institutes, One Lab, One Alliance” framework and cordially invited alumni to visit and exchange with the department. Alumni engaged in lively discussions on cutting-edge technologies and reminisced about their campus years, further strengthening the connections and friendship among domestic and international alumni in power electronics and electrical machines. At this conference, 2005 EEA undergraduate alumnus Associate Professor Chen Minjie from Princeton University was appointed co-Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics.
