On September 20, the Tsinghua EEA “Shanghai Tour” — 2025 “Focusing on AI. Empowering Power” 2nd Alumni Forum was successfully held in Shanghai. The forum focused on the innovative applications and future development of artificial intelligence in the energy and power sector, bringing together nearly one hundred experts, scholars, and alumni representatives from universities, enterprises, and industry associations. The meeting was presided over by Yu Zhanqing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) of Tsinghua University and Secretary-General of the Tsinghua Alumni Association EEA Chapter.

Distinguished Alum

At the Event

Qin Weifang, President of the Tsinghua University Shanghai Alumni Association, remarked in her speech that EEA alumni have made important contributions to Shanghai’s economic and social development, especially in the intersecting fields of power, energy, and artificial intelligence. She pointed out that the competition for AI computing power is essentially a competition for power supply capacity. EEA alumni should seize the opportunities brought by Shanghai’s AI pilot industry development and continue to play a leading role in building new power systems and efficient computing infrastructure.

Professor Kang Chongqing, Dean of Tsinghua University EEA, stated in his speech that the department is actively responding to the university’s educational reform and fully integrating into the general education and interdisciplinary cultivation system of the “Ziqiang College.” He emphasized that AI is profoundly transforming research and engineering paradigms, and all practitioners should proactively embrace AI and deeply integrate it into key technologies in power systems. He also introduced EEA’s forward-looking plans in AI course development, intelligent teaching assistant development, and research integration, and announced that the EEA Northwest Regional Organization would be established in Xi’an in October to further expand the alumni network and industry-academia-research cooperation ecosystem.

Zhou Qing, Director of the Shanghai Alumni Association EEA Committee, mentioned that since its establishment two and a half years ago, the committee has formed a stable and active event mechanism. In the future, it will continue to promote cross-regional collaboration and plans to jointly organize thematic activities with the Zhejiang Alumni Association. He highlighted that the “Shanghai Visit” series provided insights into alumni needs and suggestions for services. Going forward, the committee will leverage EEA’s rich alumni resources and broad platform to build a normalized demand release and cooperation matching mechanism with alumni of different professional backgrounds, promoting resource integration and empowerment in Shanghai.
