On May 9, a delegation from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA), Tsinghua University, visited Qinghai University to carry out targeted support work. The delegation included Professor Kang Chongqing, Dean of the Department; Associate Chairs Professor Lu Chao and Professor Zhang Pinjia; Professor Mei Shengwei, who also serves as Dean of the School of Energy and Electrical Engineering at Qinghai University; Associate Professor Chen Laijun, who is also Associate Dean of the same school; and Associate Professor Lu Haifeng, Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering at Xinjiang University. More than ten faculty and staff members from the “One Department, Two Institutes” framework participated in the activities.

On the morning of May 9, the delegation met with the leadership of Qinghai University. Attendees included President Shi Yuanchun; Director of Academic Affairs Ma Shangang; Dean of the Graduate School Liang Jian; Deputy Director of the Research Institute Cao Tengfei; and Yang Xincun (Party Secretary) and Associate Dean Si Yang from the School of Energy and Electrical Engineering. President Shi introduced the recent development of Qinghai University and welcomed the Tsinghua delegation. Professor Kang Chongqing reported on the progress of EEA’s targeted support work for Qinghai University and proposed future initiatives in disciplinary development and talent cultivation. During the meeting, participants from both sides held in-depth discussions on how to promote more comprehensive and deeper cooperation between EEA and Qinghai University’s energy and electrical disciplines, especially in scientific research collaboration, teaching reform, and talent training.

Following the meeting, the delegation visited Qinghai University’s photovoltaic base, supercomputing center, and satellite station to conduct on-site inspections of the university’s achievements in relevant fields. The two sides also engaged in lively technical discussions on specific topics.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited the School of Energy and Electrical Engineering at Qinghai University to implement targeted support initiatives. The event was attended by Professor Mei Shengwei, Party Secretary Yang Xincun, Associate Dean Si Yang, Associate Dean Chen Laijun, Professor Jin Fubao, and more than 40 faculty and student representatives from the school. Associate Dean Si Yang gave a comprehensive introduction to the school’s basic situation and development plans in terms of disciplinary development, talent cultivation, and research achievements. Lu Chao, Zhao Dongyuan, and Wang Jiong introduced the recent developments of the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Beijing Institute, and the Sichuan Institute, respectively.

Forum Session

Next, Lu Chao and Zhang Pinjia delivered themed lectures, sharing their experiences in choosing research directions as young faculty and applying for research grants. In the discussion session, both sides held in-depth exchanges on various topics, including undergraduate and graduate curriculum development, enhancement of teaching abilities, joint graduate training, PhD program applications, highland-featured research directions and major project formulation, young faculty career development, and local/university-industry research collaborations. A preliminary list of targeted support work plans was also formulated.

Based on the discussions, Professor Kang Chongqing outlined specific support measures and designated contacts for upcoming work. In his concluding remarks, Professor Mei Shengwei emphasized that the School should take this opportunity to further strengthen business ties and academic exchanges with Tsinghua University’s Department of Electrical Engineering, aiming to achieve new progress in teaching, research, talent development, and platform building, and to contribute to national strategic needs and local economic development.
