From November 10 to 13, faculty and students from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) of Tsinghua University participated in the 17th International Conference on Plasma Science and Applications (ICPSA 2024) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The conference was hosted by the University of Malaya, a member institution of the Asia-Africa Association of Plasma Training (AAAPT). The conference covered topics such as the fundamentals of plasma physics, laser plasmas, plasma simulations, applied plasmas, nuclear fusion and technology, space and astrophysical plasmas, biological plasmas, and more. It aimed to provide a platform for plasma researchers from various fields to interact and exchange ideas.

At the conference, Associate Professor Fu Yangyang from EEA was invited to give a keynote presentation titled “The Physics of Microscale Breakdown: A Review of Recent Progress.” Postdoctoral researcher Zhang Liyang gave an invited talk titled “Modeling of Plasma-Bioaerosol Interactions.” Doctoral student Zhang Dongheyu gave a session talk titled “Mechanism of Periodic Convective Oscillations in Laser-Sustained Plasmas”, and won the Best Presentation Award.

The research group engaged in active and in-depth exchanges with experts, scholars, students, and technicians at the conference. After the event, they visited Nanyang Technological University and Singapore University of Technology and Design in Singapore. On November 14, Associate Professor Fu Yangyang and his team visited Nanyang Technological University and had in-depth discussions with Professor Mohammad Samizadeh Nikoo from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Professor Rajdeep Singh Rawat from the National Institute of Education. During this visit, Associate Professor Fu gave a presentation titled “Ignition of Miniaturized Plasma Sources: Theory, Modeling, and Physics”, chaired by Professor Mohammad Samizadeh Nikoo, with over 30 faculty and students from Nanyang Technological University attending. After the presentation, there was an interactive Q&A session and academic discussion.
