On October 12, Professor Zhu Ziqiang, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and Professor at the University of Sheffield, was appointed as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University. The appointment ceremony took place at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA).
Yu Xinjie, Director of the Office of Human Resources at Tsinghua University, and Party Secretary of EEA, Xiao Xi, Associate Dean of the Graduate School at Tsinghua University, Zheng Zedong, Deputy Dean of EEA, and faculty member Chai Jianyun, among others attended the ceremony. The event was hosted by Sun Kai, Assistant to the Dean of EEA.

During the ceremony, Sun Kai introduced Professor Zhu Ziqiang’s academic background and his outstanding contributions to the fields of electrical engineering and drive control. Yu Xinjie presented Professor Zhu with the appointment certificate as Distinguished Visiting Professor of Tsinghua University, as well as the appointment certificate as Distinguished Visiting Expert of the Energy Internet Innovation Research Institute, and expressed expectations for future collaboration.
Professor Zhu Ziqiang Delivers an Academic Report
Following the appointment ceremony, Professor Zhu Ziqiang delivered an academic report titled "Sustained Innovation: New Motors, Drivers, and Control Systems." In his presentation, he provided a detailed overview of the progress in research on new motors, drivers, and control technologies in areas such as electrified transportation, offshore wind power, and household appliances. He also enthusiastically shared methods for conducting innovative research in industry-academia collaboration. After the lecture, faculty and students engaged in a lively discussion with Professor Zhu about the technical challenges and innovation pathways of new motors in different application fields.
Professor Zhu Ziqiang is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, IEEE Fellow, IET Fellow, Foreign Fellow of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE), and Foreign Fellow of the Chinese Electrotechnical Society (CES). He also serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the IET’s Electric Power Applications (EPA) journal. To date, he has published six monographs, been granted more than 200 patents, and authored over 1,500 academic papers, including more than 600 papers in IEEE Transactions and IET Proceedings. His work has been widely cited (Sci-citations >30,000, H-index = 90, Google-citations >50,000, H-index = 112). He has chaired or co-chaired 29 international conferences, delivered keynote speeches at 58 international conferences, and given over 300 academic lectures worldwide. He has been awarded the 2024 Global Energy Prize, the highest award in global power technology – the 2021 IEEE Nikola Tesla Award, the 2019 IEEE Industrial Applications Society Outstanding Achievement Award, and 38 Best Paper Awards.
