On the afternoon of July 15, the opening ceremony of the 2022 Summer School of China-Italian Joint Laboratory (School) of Advanced Manufacturing was jointly held online by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) of Tsinghua University, the University of Bergamo and the University of Naples. Yu Xinjie, Secretary of the Party Committee of EEA of Tsinghua University, Matteo Lorito, President of the University of Naples, Sergio Cavalieri, President of the University of Bergamo, Giorgio Ventre, Director of the Apple Developer Academy of the University of Naples and some other guests attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Nearly 60 Chinese and Italian students signed up to participate the summer school. The opening ceremony was presided over by Prof. Giovanni Breglio of the University of Naples.

At the opening ceremony, Director Giorgio Ventre first gave a welcome speech to the guests and students. Then, Professor Giovanni Breglio briefly introduced the establishment background, purpose and important measures of the China-Italian Lab of Advanced Manufacturing (CI-LAM). Professor Gianluca Danilo D'Urso of the University of Bergamo and Wang Jian, Secretary General of China Science and Technology Automation Alliance, delivered speeches respectively.

Afterwards, Prof. Sergio Cavalieri, Prof. Matteo Lorito and Prof. Yu Xinjie expressed their congratulations on the opening of the 2022 Summer School of CI-LAM on behalf of the three universities, and hoped that students from China and Italy could explore more advanced technology and best practices about the field of smart manufacturing through the study in the summer school. They sincerely thank the Chinese and Italian cooperation team for their joint effort to create professional and diverse summer courses.

At the later roundtable meeting, Wang Jian served as the moderator, Giovanni Caturano, Director of Innovation and Communication of Mare Group, Dr. Shi Zhe of Foxconn Group, Mattia Crespi, founder of Qbit Technologies, and Li Tiejun, consultant of DataMesh, led heated discussion on “Industrial Metaverse and Its Impact on Manufacturing Industry” to explore the concept of the metaverse, the relationship between industrialization and manufacturing and the metaverse, and the mutual promotion of the development of the metaverse and the progress of manufacturing.
