From November 14 to 16, 2019, Professor Kang Chongqing of EEA and professors of other universities in China went to Korea University in South Korea and attended the eighth China-Korea Academic Symposium to promote mutual communication and exchange in the field of renewable energy, they fully comprehended the opportunities and challenges for the power system on background of high proportion renewable energy grid incorporation, and the two sides exchanged the achievement and experience grip incorporation technology, dispatching and planning of renewable energy in the field of power system so as to contribute to national strategy for clean energy development. The China-Korea Joint Symposium on High Renewable Energy Penetration to Power System was hosted by Professor Gilsoo Jang of Korea University.

The Chinese team of participants was composed of 15 representative teachers and students from Tsinghua University, North China Electric Power University, Zhejiang University, Shandong University and Hohai University, and the South Korean team was composed of more than 30 representative teachers and students from Korea University, Yonsei University and Inje University. The two sides discussed and exchanged the research achievement on renewable energy output prediction, renewable energy generation grip incorporation and control, high renewable energy grid incorporation challenges, photothermal power generation, power system operation flexibility, power market and demand-side response, and so on. Professor Kang Chongqing of EEA was invited to make a report on "Research Progress and Value Analysis of Photothermal Power Generation in China", Postdoc Du Ershun presided over the seminar as a Chinese representative, and Jiang Haiyang, a doctoral student, won the Best Poster Paper Award.

The China-Korea Joint Symposium, an annual forum mainly on large-scale renewable grip incorporation, has been held for 8 times since it was initiated by Professor Kang Chongqing of EEA of Tsinghua University and Professor Y.C Kang of South Korea (formerly at Jeonbuk National University and now at Yonsei University) in 2012. The participating universities of the two sides include Tsinghua University, North China Electric Power University, Zhejiang University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Shandong University, Hohai University, Seoul University, Korea University, Yonsei University, Jeonbuk National University, Chonnam National University, Inje University, and so on. This symposium has promoted a series of cooperation between China and South Korea in cooperative research, short-term courses and exchange of visits.
