On June 21, over 110 newly minted graduates celebrated commencement at the Tsinghua Main Building. The Dean Andrew Yao addressed the 2023 graduates, followed by remarks delivered by Tsinghua Vice President Luming Li, Assistant Professor Mingyu Gao, student delegates, and alumni.
Prof. Andrew Yao congratulated students on their achievements. “I'm glad that a new generation of talents is to graduate,” he said,“your pursuit of truth and creativity is commendable.” Having reflected upon the IIIS history and accomplishments, he said, “Interdisciplinary information study is a rapidly evolving field, I hope that you could continuously explore and contribute to it.” He concluded with a blessing,“May you all make a difference in the world, shine bright like stars, and contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.”
Tsinghua Vice President Luming Li first expressed his respect to Prof. Yao for his remarkable efforts and achievements in education. Against the backdrop of speedy tech innovation, he pointed out,“Pursuing excellence is an endless process, I hope that our graduates could keep both feet on the ground while constantly making breakthroughs."
Other speakers included Asst. Prof. Mingyu Gao as the faculty representative, Carnegie Mellon University Asst. Prof. Zhihao Jia as the alumni representative, and student delegates Jiayuan Liu, Yihan Du, and Xingjian Zhang.
The Outstanding Graduate Awards were granted at the commencement.
